Estate Plan Review Request
Why do you need to review your estate plan?
If there is one thing about life that we all know to be true, it’s that life never stays the same.
Despite what many believe, an estate plan is not a ‘one and done’ set of legal documents. An estate plan is a ‘living’ set of documents that need to be updated regularly, or as often as circumstances in one’s life changes.
It’s very important that you regularly review your estate plan and update it when circumstances require it. Some major life events that warrant a review of your plan includes but is not limited to:
- Marriage
- Separation
- Divorce
- Having a child
- Death of a loved one
- Child’s marriage or divorce
- Grandchildren
- Health Circumstances change or deteriorate
- Capacity issues (dementia, alzheimers, etc.)
We recommend that you review your estate plan each year and think about whether or not your current plan continues to serve the purpose it was set up to perform. If it doesn’t, you need to contact your estate planning attorney so that your documents and plan can be updated. An outdated estate plan can end up being a plan that carries out outdated wishes that you no longer desire.
Fortunately, updating your plan is very easy!
